The Enlargement Directorate-General of the European Commission is organising Balkans Cinema Days at Flagey in Brussels, 21-23 April 2008

Brussels (Agence Europe) - On 21 to 23
April 2008, the Enlargement Directorate-General of the European Commission is organising Balkans Cinema Days at Flagey in Brussels, showing eight films from the region's rich cinema tradition, namely Armin by Ognjen Sviličić (Croatia, 2007), Huddersfield by Ivan Živković (Serbia, 2007), The Shadows by Milčo Mančevski (FYROM, 2007), The Father and the Godfather by Dhimiter Anagnosti (Albania, 2006), Grbavica - Sarajevo mon amour by Jasmila ?banić (Bosnia Herzegovina, 2006), Midwinter's Night's Dream by Goran Paskaljević (Serbia, 2004), Everything's Free by Antonio Nuić (Croatia, 2006) and Slogans by Gjergj Xhuvani (Albania, 2001). All the films were awarded prizes at international film festivals like the Berlin International Festival, the Thessalonica International Film Festival and the Sofia International Film Festival. The Flagey Festival will show how the new generation is using different genres to depict the social, political and cultural developments in their regions, mixing irony, pessimism and optimism. The Balkans Cinema Days do not claim to shed an exhaustive view on the Western Balkans film output, but attempt to give an idea of the wealth of cinema in the region, explained Gisela Gauggel-Robinson, Head of Unit of the press and communications unit of DG Enlargement. The films will be shown in the original language with English, French and Dutch subtitles.
